Park and trail etiquette is crucial for creating an enjoyable and safe experience for everyone. Following proper etiquette helps to reduce the risk of accidents and injuries and ensures that the natural environment is preserved for future generations. It also helps to maintain a peaceful and respectful atmosphere in public spaces. When we follow the rules of the park and trail, we show consideration for other visitors, wildlife, and the environment. By practicing good park and trail etiquette, we can all enjoy these beautiful public spaces and ensure they remain enjoyable for generations to come.

Etiquette Reminders: 

Be Courteous

  • Travel in single file or take up no more than half the trail.
  • Step off the trail when taking a break
  • Travel at a safe and controlled speed
  • Be mindful of space and noise level
  • Keep children close by and teach them to be courteous trail users

Communicate

  • Give an audible warning before passing and if necessary, communicate how to pass.
  • Be alert and able to hear other trail users
  • Use proper hand signals when verbal communication is not effective

Follow the rules

  • Stay on the marked trail and do no trespass.
  • Follow all trail signs.
  • Do not use trails that are closed or do not permit your user type.
